The data looks out of date
On this page
Different parts of 4Search are refreshed at different speeds, and several of them tell you how fresh they are. Before you decide something is stuck, look for the time on the page.
#Look for the time on the page
- Finance. A quote shows its time, for example At close: Oct 23, 4:00 PM EDT, with May be delayed up to 15 min beside it. Finance pages say prices may be delayed up to 15 minutes and that data may be incomplete or inaccurate. Nothing on them is investment advice.
- Predictions. Prices and odds can move quickly. The pages say they may be delayed and are read every few minutes.
- Weather. A forecast card says when it was last updated, for example "forecast updated 12 minutes ago", and an observation says how long ago it was taken. The radar page notes how often it updates.
- Politics. Bill pages say how often their data is refreshed.
- News. Each story shows how long ago it was published, such as 9h ago, or its date.
#Why numbers differ from another site
- Delay. A price that may be up to 15 minutes behind can differ from one on a site that shows live quotes.
- Different moments. After the market closes, Finance shows the last close, labeled At close, until trading starts again. On weekends and holidays the last close can be days old.
- Different sources. Two services can report slightly different figures for the same thing, for example a forecast or a market's odds.
- Your time zone. Times on a page may be in the place's time zone or in Eastern time, as the label says.
#What to do
- Reload the page to fetch the latest.
- Read the time label on the number. If it is within its stated delay, nothing is wrong.
- If a value has not changed for much longer than its note says, and other sites show a newer one, tell us which page, which value and when you looked. See How to reach us.
#Common questions
Why does Finance show yesterday's date?
The market is closed, so the page shows the last close. It labels it At close with the date and time.
Are the prices real time?
No. Finance says prices may be delayed up to 15 minutes.
The weather looks wrong for right now.
Check the "updated" time on the forecast card, and reload. Conditions change faster than a forecast is refreshed. If the time is hours old, tell us.
Why is a news story old?
Search can reach back further than 30 days when there is little recent coverage, and the story's age is shown on it. Choose a shorter period in the date menu to see only recent ones. See No results, or too few results.
